Newcastle United have revealed they intend to setup Twitter rules for their players following the leaking of team-sensitive information.
The Guardian reported that the club are to educate their players on information and use of Twitter.
This sort of incident was originally dealt with in private at the club, but the increasing pervasiveness of social platforms means that it is likely that there will be a slow increase in the rate of sharing of this sort of information by footballers on Twitter.
Football clubs are of course brands in their own right, controlling this sort of information is just the start; should private financial data be inadvertently leaked for example, what would the consequences be?
It’s a forward thinking approach Newcastle United are taking and it is a welcome one given the increasing gap between players and fans.
